Just got through reading this and was happy to see Dark Star from Live Dead at #57. Lots of great songs listed, many questionable as well. Another favorite that I was somewhat surprised to see recognized was Quicksilver's Mona from Happy Trails.

These lists are always kinda silly - though I was personally pleased to see Tool squeak in at #100.
Dark Star from Live Dead - Okay, that's nice, but I would have gone for one of Jerry's big "joyous" guitar songs - Not Fadeaway>Going Down The Road from Skull & Roses, The Wheel from So Many Roads, Eyes of the World from One From The Vault, or the Uncle John's Band from the 12-26-79 Dick's Picks. But that's just me.

to follow up on SDH's thoughts on how these lists are slapped together, take a look at the Rock and roll Hall of fame voting process in this link. It's described under the "criticism" section. You'll see that Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone is one the board members for voting. In addition to giving his pals in the industry favorable reviews in his mag, he and his cronies have an odd way of selecting who deserves to be in the hall.

The guys at RS certainly do love rolling out these lists on a regular basis. I only wish they'd call them "Rolling Stone's Top 100 (whatever) in the Opinion Of a Few Writers". Either that or put it up for a vote, allowing folks to submit, say, 25 of their personal faves. I'd have to put Comfortably Numb near or at the top of my list. In my opion the most powerful solo ever captured in a studio setting.

At least they had the good sense to leave Johnny Winter off the list - what hack that guy is; and such lame songs!!!

A cow that can play guitar? I think we've found your soul-mate.

I've also tracked down Rob's perfect "other half":
